In each case the aspect ratio of your original image is maintained,
any additional 'canvas' needed is filled with black.

A Photoshop (only) 'Action' with three options.

(1) fully automatic action to sharpen and enhance detail/texture.

(2) a modified version of the action using 'Smart Object' (Photoshop version specific)
enabling you to modify the settings used, via the Smart Object filter, Surface Blur.

(3) a non-'Smart Object' version of the above (therefore usable on earlier versions of Photoshop)
which enables you to apply the level of Surface Blur that you wish to use as par
